It’s such a unique time in your life where, your body shifts and grows and you give birth and then it shifts and changes some more, and before you know it, you don’t even really remember what it felt like to be pregnant. What I will say is that, through that discomfort, my mom is sad that she doesn’t have beautiful, intentional photos of herself pregnant with my sister and I. Everyone is telling you “it’s such a miracle!! Embrace your body.”īut it’s not that easy. You don’t feel yourself, you feel sick and tired, and everything hurts. Many of my clients tell me that watching their body change and grow is hard for them. You deserve to have time for yourself to feel seen and celebrated. The thing is, you are a person, regardless if you’re a mom or a soon-to-be-mom. I look back at those photos and wonder who my mom was and what she was like before she brought me earthside.

They are special because not only was my mom about to give birth to me, but her body was changing / had changed and that is something that is so worth documenting. It sounds so silly, but those photos are so special. My mom has very few photos of herself pregnant with me, and maybe even fewer of her pregnant with my sister. Maternity boudoir is so so so so so special. (As always, due to the private nature of boudoir session, I only share with the written permission of my clients.I get asked all the time, “Carrie Anne, do you shoot maternity boudoir?”

I was basically crapping my pants nervous to do this (and I’m a photographer!), but I knew I’d regret it if I didn’t and I am BLOWN AWAY. Here’s what Maddie had to say about her boudoir session with me! Once you’ve entered your third trimester, your belly begins to develop more of a nice round shape that’s perfect for showing off in photos. Usually I advise expecting mamas to schedule their maternity session in their third trimester. You are welcome to bring your own, or I have a few that I keep on hand for my clients to borrow! When Should I Schedule A Session? One thing that’s different about maternity boudoir… there really isn’t lingerie involved! I recommend my maternity boudoir clients to bring cute lace bras or bralettes (she got her cute bralettes from Aerie)! I also love the idea of cozy knit sweaters or cardigans rather than kimonos that I would normally use for boudoir. And let’s not forget about that sweet baby bump! Maternity boudoir is more soft, more romantic, more about showing the beauty of the woman bringing a life into this world. A maternity boudoir session, you say? Yes! They’re totally a thing and I’m so excited to show one of my recent maternity sessions off! Besides the Obvious…How is Maternity Boudoir Different From Regular Boudoir?
